San Francisco 49ers rookie linebacker Reuben Foster was arrested Sunday for suspicion of domestic violence, possessing an assault rifle, and making criminal threats.

The arrest took place Sunday morning in Los Gatos, California. Los Gatos-Monte Sereno police were dispatched to a home on reports of a domestic disturbance, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

A woman who Foster has been in a relationship with alleged that he assaulted her after an argument, according to the Mercury News.

Police also found an assault rifle in the home.

The matter is currently under investigation.

Foster, 23, was booked for domestic violence and possessing an assault weapon, which are felonies. He was also arrested for and making criminal threats, a misdemeanor.

Foster was released from Santa Clara County Jail on Sunday night on $75,000 bail.

“The San Francisco 49ers organization is aware of the report regarding Reuben Foster. We take matters of this nature seriously and are gathering all pertinent information,” the 49ers said in a statement.

This is Foster’s second arrest in less than a month.

On Jan. 13, Foster was arrested in Alabama on a charge of possession of marijuana. He was released after posting the $2,500 bond.

Foster, who played at Alabama, was the 31st pick in the 2017 NFL draft by the 49ers. The 2016 Butkus Award winner as the nation’s best linebacker, was considered one of the top defensive players in the draft.

He was projected as a higher pick than late in the first round, but injury and character concerns made him slide down the draft board. At the NFL scouting combines last March, he was sent home after getting into an argument with a hospital worker.

Foster also had a diluted urine sample at the combine, which placed him in the NFL’s substance abuse program.

Despite those concerns, 49ers GM John Lynch said they were comfortable taking him with the 31st pick.

“We were exhaustive in getting to know the kid,” Lynch told NFL.com last April. “We met him at the combine. We had him out here for a visit. [Coach] Kyle [Shanahan] and I spent a lot of time on the phone with him Facetiming … He’s going to be disappointed [with being picked No. 31] because he feels he was one of the better players.”

Foster started 10 games for the Niners last season, recording 59 solo tackles and five assists.
