Alabama college football prospect arrested on capital murder charges
Three-star defensive tackle prospect Jessie Altman was one of three men arrested Wednesday on capital murder charges.
247 Sports rates Altman as the No. 20 overall prospect from the state of Alabama and the No. 40 defensive tackle in the nation for the Class of 2019.
The 17-year-old Altman plays for Etowah High School in Attala, Alabama.
Altman, Broderick Pearson and Lonterry Harrison are all currently being held at the Etowah County Detention Center, per the Gadsden Times.
They are all considered suspects in last week’s murder of 18-year-old Aaron Huff.
Police have already arrested two others believed to be involved in Huff’s murder.
Kalab Whitworth and Tyler Abbott were arrested shortly after the slaying.
Both were charged as adults, according to Gadsden Police Sgt. John Hallman.
Huff was shot and killed while in a car on Jan. 4.
While stopped at an intersection, Huff, who was sitting in the passenger seat, was shot by a gunman from another vehicle.
Curiously, police say the driver of the gunman’s vehicle took Huff to a nearby hospital, where Huff died from his injuries.
Police have not commented on a motive for the murder.
They said, however, that they believe Huff and Abbott were prior acquaintances. The police report said the two had an altercation prior to the shooting.
Altman has received scholarship offers from some big-time college football programs.
Oregon, Texas, TCU and Mississippi State are just a few of the schools that have offered the 6-foot-1, 295-pound junior a scholarship, per Rivals.com.
Alabama and FSU have also expressed interest in Altman, although neither has offered him a scholarship.
He has yet to indicate his preferred college and hasn’t had any official visits.
