NFL player arrested after bizarre, naked, bloody fight with brother

Share

In what can perhaps best be described as a truly bizarre incident, Buffalo Bills wide receiver Zay Jones was arrested after getting into an altercation with his brother — while naked.

Video of the Monday night incident obtained by TMZ shows Zay fighting with his brother, Minnesota Vikings receiver Cayleb Jones.

Zay was naked while “grappling” with Cayleb in a downtown Los Angeles apartment building where Cayleb’s girlfriend lives, TMZ reported. At one point, Zay can be heard yelling, “I’m going to fight for Jesus.”

Witnesses claimed Cayleb was trying to stop his brother from jumping out the 30th floor window of the building. Eventually, Zay escaped from Cayleb and ran toward the girlfriend’s apartment.

At some point, though it’s not in the video, Jones ran out of the apartment to a public balcony area and “smashed his foot through a window,” according to TMZ. Photos taken at the scene of the incident showed there was blood everywhere.

Zay reportedly tried to get through the hole in the window, but he was restrained by Cayleb until law enforcement arrived on the scene.

Zay was then arrested and held at the Los Angeles County jail. He was released on bond Wednesday morning, but not before being charged with damage to property, which is a felony, WKBW reported. He is due in court on April 11, per Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News.

Is this one of the weirdest incidents involving an NFL player's arrest you've ever heard about?

On Tuesday night, the Bills said they were aware of the incident, but were not going to comment on it any further. “We are aware of the incident involving Zay Jones. We are still in the process of gathering more information on the matter. At this point, we will have no further comment,” the team’s statement read.

Zay Jones, 22, was about to enter his second season with the Bills after being picked in the second round of the 2017 draft out of East Carolina. Last year, he caught 27 passes for 316 yards with two touchdowns.

Following news of his arrest, several of Jones’ current and former teammates took to social media to express their messages of support.

“Wow so sad to hear this about Zay Jones that’s scary to hear that’s why I don’t believe in nun other than the Lord AHMEN Jesus don’t exist anymore if you ask me if he did he wouldn’t allow such a act and humiliation in this kid life I know this kid personally,” former Bills receiver Sammy Watkins wrote in a since-deleted tweet.
