NFL quarterback accused of horrific domestic violence incident, police investigating
The Seattle Seahawks released quarterback Trevone Boykin on Tuesday after his girlfriend went public with horrifying domestic violence allegations against him.
Speaking to WFAA-TV in Dallas with a broken jaw wired shut, Shabrika Bailey said she and Boykin got into an argument last week at his home in Mansfield, Texas, southeast of Fort Worth.
He became enraged that Bailey, with whom he has been in a relationship since high school, refused to unlock her phone so he could see a text message, she said.
Boykin grabbed her by the neck and choked her until she was unconscious, Bailey said.
“I remember him choking me and I’m trying to calm him down,” she told WFAA. “And I just couldn’t. And I blacked out. I just couldn’t calm him down at all.”
Bailey said she “woke up in a puddle of blood on the kitchen floor. My whole right side was full of blood on the kitchen floor.”
Boykin dragged her to a bathtub and cleaned her up, she said, and a few hours later he took her to Dallas Regional Medical Center in Mesquite. When hospital staff started asking questions, the quarterback fled.
In addition to her broken jaw, Bailey was struggling to breathe because her airway was swollen and constricted, so she was airlifted to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas.
After three days of treatment, she was released Saturday.
The report aired Monday night on WFAA, and the Seahawks parted ways with Boykin on Tuesday morning.

Detectives from the Mansfield Police Department interviewed Boykin at his home Tuesday, according to WFAA.
Bailey said this wasn’t the first time he had choked her until she blacked out.
Last March, she was driving with Boykin as a passenger when she backed into the wall of a nightclub, injuring several people. She was arrested on charges of intoxication assault.
Now, however, Bailey says she crashed the car because Boykin was attacking her.
“He leaned over, attacked me, and choked me unconscious, which made the car go into drive to reverse,” she told WFAA. Bailey said she didn’t speak up then because “I was just scared. Terrified, of everything.”
She said she covered for Boykin then, and he asked her to do it again after last week’s incident.
“His first suggestion was to say that I fell. Then he suggested that I got beat up by a girl, or jumped. Then he suggested that I fell again,” Bailey said.
This time, she refused.
“It just can’t keep going on,” Bailey said. “He just can’t get away with this. This is serious.”
The NFL has taken a hard line on domestic violence in the wake of the Ray Rice case in 2014, when the league was widely criticized for its handling of the Baltimore Ravens running back’s videotaped beating of his then-fiance.
Last year, Dallas Cowboys star Ezekiel Elliott was suspended for six games over an alleged domestic violence incident for which no charges were filed.
Boykin, who was a star quarterback at TCU, signed with the Seahawks as a free agent in 2016. He appeared in five games that year, throwing one touchdown pass.
