President Trump reportedly makes decision about attending Alabama-Georgia game
It’s been well-established at this point that President Donald Trump is not exactly a friend of the NFL.
In September, he ripped the league for allowing its players to kneel and protest during the national anthem. The NFL responded with a weekend full of protests directed at Trump.
Even though numerous NFL owners supported his candidacy, it seems unlikely that Trump would classify himself as an NFL fan anytime soon.
But what about college football?
With the extent of collegiate athlete anthem protests being Kennesaw State cheerleaders, it was unclear what Trump thought about NCAA football.
Apparently, unlike the NFL, the president is a fan of the college game.
According to Greg Bluestein of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Trump will be attending the College Football Playoff championship game between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Georgia Bulldogs.
The game will be held at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Monday.
Trump will be hosted by Nick Ayers, who is Vice President Mike Pence’s chief of staff, and Ayers’ wife Jamie.
On Tuesday, White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders congratulated both Alabama and Georgia for making the national championship game. She described them as “two great states, both in the heart of Trump country.”
Both states could definitely be construed as Trump country.
Trump won Alabama by nearly 30 points during the 2016 election.
He won Georgia by about five points.
Trump will certainly be occupying some highly sought after and rather expensive seats.
ESPN’s Darren Rovell noted that Georgia fans crashed the ticket sales site StubHub after their team earned a spot in the national championship game.
And according to Business Insider, ticket prices are reaching $3,000 on secondary sales markets.
Georgia qualified for the national championship game with a thrilling double-overtime victory in the Rose Bowl over the Oklahoma Sooners.
Alabama punched its ticket to Atlanta by handling the Clemson Tigers in the Sugar Bowl.
